Encounter
1) Together as a group outline the journey that the Israelites went on from Egypt to the promised land being careful to include those who don’t know the story/ scriptures as well. You may wish to get creative and use props (or images if on zoom) to place in the right order. For example, chains, plagues, a river, bread, water, a tent, a calf, a mountain, ten commandments, a river, a pile of stones.
2) What connections/ parallels can you make between the Israelites roadmap and the roadmap for the life of a disciple of Jesus? (This is the idea behind the series roadmap for life).
Read Exodus 33:12-25
3) Where are we? What is the context here? (Encourage your group to have a quick flip back from previous chapters and forward to next few)
4) Ask those that heard Andy’s message to share anything they found helpful or encouraging.
5) Why was Moses concerned God’s presence would not go with him? (clue 33:1-3) Why was Moses so desperate for God to go with his people? (see 33:15-16)
6) Why could Moses ‘not see my face’? (v20) Is this the same for us? How can we see and know The Lord today?
7) How does knowing that ‘the promise of God’s presence was for a sinful people for the journey ahead’ affect how we can move forward as disciples of Jesus?
8) Are there things that have had our attention and devotion (gold calf’s) recently that we need to confess?
Spend some time in prayer as a group, seeking ‘God’s face’ (v14), worshiping him, and letting him know we too want his presence in our lives.
