The Pre-Marriage Course

The Pre-Marriage Course is a well-established course for couples who are exploring the idea of getting married and for those who are already engaged. Nicky and Sila Lee developed the course to help couples invest in their relationship for a lasting and rewarding marriage. Over five sessions, it will help you learn to communicate well, understand and appreciate your differences, and prepare for potential challenges. The course is based on Christian principles but designed for all couples with or without a faith or church background.

The Pre-Marriage Course is video based, covering topics like communication, commitment, marriage vows, resolving conflict, finances, building friendship, the sexual relationship, goals, roles and values. We watch sections of the video, pausing at intervals for couples to do simple exercises on their own, talking over questions like, "What are our differences?", "What triggers conflict between us?", "What are the things we enjoy doing together?" and "Will we have a joint bank account?" You will not be asked to speak about any sensitive topics during open discussion.

The Pre-Marriage Course at Chichester Baptist Church is run by a couple who are members of the church. It is usually run twice each year: once in the autumn and once in the New Year. We meet on Sunday afternoons in the Upper Room at CBC. The are five sessions in all - each about 100 minutes long. We aim to run the course over five consecutive weeks but retain some flexibility for an occasional postponement if necessary. We can accommodate up to five couples per course.

We serve home made cake and refreshments halfway through the session.

There is a small fee per couple to cover the cost of the course materials.
