Encouragement from the life of William Wilberforce
Recent events in the world have turned a spotlight upon racial divides and prejudice that run deep. An appropriate moment perhaps for us to look back at the life of William Wilberforce and his faith and vision. This short video seeks to do that and considers some encouragements and challenges from his story that resonate powerfully at this present time.
To accompany this video, there are some questions that might be helpful as you think and pray further in your small group or in your own personal reflection. You will find the questions here.
If you missed the relevant, thought-provoking and helpful interview with Bruno Kondebeka re. issues of racial injustice that was posted on our site recently, you can still find it here.
Throughout the video the celebrated voice of Aretha Franklin can be heard singing Amazing Grace. Aretha Franklin was a passionate presence in the Civil Rights Movement of 1960’s America and sang at many marches and demonstrations. (She also was an outspoken advocate for the rights and dignity of native American Indians.) If you would like to hear the full uninterrupted version of Amazing Grace from her historic 1972 concert at New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, follow this link.
