Online Service 15/11/20

Welcome!

Hi everyone! A warm welcome to the CBC online service. Whether this is your first time or you are a regular, we’re really glad you can join us.

Let’s worship together

We rejoice today that the resurrection is fact, not fiction: Jesus is alive! Only the Lord of all the earth could do this, so let’s celebrate him. And if you’re not going to disturb the neighbours, even a shout would be appropriate during this first song!

Be still

In Psalm 46, after the verses declaring God’s greatness, we are encouraged to “Be still.” Sometimes we can rush in and out of God’s presence as if he was an item on our To Do list. Before you watch this short video, I encourage you to take some slow, deep breaths and prepare yourself to meditate on Psalm 23, a wonderful source of help at any time of stress and anxiety.

Cast your mind to Calvary

The cross is the centrepiece of the Christian faith. This next song encourages us to reflect on the cross in its wider context - as a precursor not just to the resurrection, but also to Christ’s return in glory.

Fact, not Fiction

The basis for Louise’s talk this morning is 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, read to us as part of the message by Grace.

Louise refers to the following four books in her talk:

  • Can Science Explain Everything? John Lennox

  • The Case for Christ, Lee Strobel

  • The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus, Gary R. Habermas, Michael R. Licona

  • Through a Glass Darkly, Alister McGrath

Questions for you

1. Paul writes in 1 Cor. 15:14, ‘and if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless.’ Why is the resurrection of Jesus so pivotal to our faith?

2. What evidence for the resurrection do you find most convincing and why?

3. Has this section of 1 Cor. 15: 1-11 challenged you in any way? How are you going to respond? What are you going to do?

For children and families

We need to hold on to what really matters. And we also need to find out what Victoria’s favourite chocolate is in a tub of Celebrations!

Praise the King!

There are so many great hymns and songs celebrating the resurrection. We close our online service today declaring that our God and King, Jesus, is alive.

Praise the King, He is risen!
Praise the King, He's alive!
