Read Isaiah 9:6-7.
1. What do you think of when you hear the word ‘peace’?
2. Picture a scenario in which there is an angry conflict between opposing parties. Tempers are rising, and individuals appear unwilling or unable to see things from another perspective. Describe the kind of people that might be peacemakers in such a situation.
3. Jesus is the Wonderful Counsellor who understands the times, who knows the situation we are in, who we can go to for advice and wisdom. Where would you normally go for advice? How, in practice, do we approach Jesus for wisdom, and how do we receive it?
4. Jesus is the Mighty God, but also the one “who became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). When you think of Jesus, which image comes most readily to mind – Mighty God, or humble Saviour?
5. As Everlasting Father, Jesus embodies the perfection of fatherhood. What are the best examples of fatherhood that you have experienced or witnessed?
6. In the talk, Andy states, “The Hebrew word shalom carries within it the ideas of harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, welfare and tranquillity.” (For an excellent expansion on these themes, watch the 4-minute Bible Project video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLYORLZOaZE). With this understanding of peace in mind, look up Philippians 4:7, Colossians 3:16, 1 Peter 1:2, 1 Peter 5:14, and then pray a blessing of peace over people and situations you know.
