Small Group Study, week commencing 2nd November.

1. “Completion can be a source of sadness, or a source of joy, or sometimes both.” What experiences have you had recently of something being completed? How did you feel?

2. The Bible teaches that when completion comes, there will be both destruction (2 Peter 3:10) and renewal (1 Corinthians 15:35-38), both death and rebirth, both discontinuity and continuity – for our bodies, and for the world as a whole. In what sense are these contrasting truths both sources of hope.

3. “We may have different standards of justice, and we might fall in different places along the continuum of strictness and leniency, but we all want justice.” Do you agree? In what sense might ‘justice’ be a word of hope?

4. Read Revelation 21:1-4. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain …” What “No more…”s are you looking forward to?

5. There is an echo from Genesis 3:8 (“the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden”) in Revelation 21:3 (“God’s dwelling-place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them”). What does this suggest to you about God’s purpose in creation and redemption?

6. Think about the four metaphors below and what they suggest about the time when God brings everything to completion.

· The Body: Rebirth

· The Courtroom: Justice

· The Wedding: Celebration

· The Garden: Perfection

Can you suggest any other metaphors? Is ‘Completion’ a “word of hope” for you?

7. Turn your thoughts into worship and prayer – for anything arising from this theme, but also from the series as a whole.
