Words of Hope

One of the things we have learnt as a church over the years is that there is real value in doing things together. It’s with that in mind, wanting to tap into the special energy and shared commitment that come with things like this, that we are launching Words of Hope in just over 3 weeks’ time.

Week 1: Fulfilment (starting 14th September)

Key verse: ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ (Matthew 16:16)

  • Day 1: Isaiah 9:6-7. The Messiah was prophesied

  • Day 2: Luke 2:25-32. The Messiah was anticipated

  • Day 3: Matthew 16:13-17. Jesus is the Messiah

  • Day 4: John 20:24-31. We are invited to believe in Jesus as Messiah to have life

  • Day 5: Acts 2:29-36. The Messiah has been exalted

Week 2: Kingdom

Key verse: ‘The kingdom of God has come near’ (Mark 1:15)

  • Day 6: Mark 1:9-15. The Kingdom came near with Jesus

  • Day 7: John 18:33-37. The Kingdom is not of this world

  • Day 8: Luke 17:20-21. The Kingdom is present

  • Day 9: Matthew 21:28-32. The Kingdom must be entered

  • Day 10: Matthew 13:24-30. The Kingdom is future

Week 3: Cross

Key verse: ‘The Son of Man must suffer many things’ (Luke 9:22)

  • Day 11: Deuteronomy 21:22-23. The problem of the Cross

  • Day 12: Mark 8:31-33. The shock of the Cross

  • Day 13: Luke 24:13-27. The necessity of the Cross

  • Day 14: Romans 5:6-10. The purpose of the Cross

  • Day 15: Matthew 16:24-26. The way of the Cross

Week 4: Grace

Key verse: ‘For it is by grace you have been saved’ (Ephesians 2:8)

  • Day 16: John 1:14-18. The source of Grace

  • Day 17: Mark 2:15-17. The objects of Grace

  • Day 18: Luke 15:11-24. The extravagance of Grace

  • Day 19: Ephesians 2:1-10. The reason for Grace

  • Day 20: Colossians 1:3-8. The response to Grace

Week 5: Covenant

Key verse: ‘But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation’ (1 Peter 2:9)

  • Day 21: Exodus 19:1-8. The Covenant with Israel

  • Day 22: Jeremiah 31:31-34. The promise of a new Covenant

  • Day 23: Luke 22:14-21. The new Covenant announced

  • Day 24: Ephesians 2:11-22. The Covenant community - 1

  • Day 25: 1 Peter 2:9-12. The Covenant community - 2

Week 6: Spirit

Key verse: ‘If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ’ (Romans 8:9)

  • Day 26: John 14:15-26. The Spirit as another like Jesus

  • Day 27: Romans 8:1-11. The Spirit lives in God's children

  • Day 28: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. The gifts of the Spirit

  • Day 29: Galatians 5:16-25. Keeping in step with the Spirit

  • Day 30: Ephesians 1:11-14. The seal of the Spirit

Week 7: Completion

Key verse: ‘A new heaven and a new earth’ (Revelation 21:1)

  • Day 31: Romans 13:8-14. The approaching time of Completion

  • Day 32: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11. The surprise of Completion

  • Day 33: Matthew 25:31-46. The separation before Completion

  • Day 34: 2 Peter 3:3-10. An opportunity before Completion

  • Day 35: Revelation 21:1-5. The Completion of all things
